Judith Hill Gardere

Judith Hill Gardere, 92, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 24, 2025. Judy was born in Sherman, TX, on September 14, 1933, to Florence Dorcus Perkins and Jack Coleman Hill. After graduating from Hockaday in 1951, Judy attended the University of Arizona, where she pledged Pi Beta Phi. Judy returned to Dallas after the death of her first husband, Robert Joseph Ford, and attended SMU. She married Edward “Buddy” Callier Gardere on September 3, 1955, where her uncle, John Astin Perkins, had a beautiful wedding for the bride and groom at his house. Judy and Buddy were married for fifty years before his death in 2005.

Judy devoted her time to The Junior League of Dallas, The Crystal Charity Ball, The Hesitation Club, The Dallas Woman’s Club, Marianne Scruggs Garden Club, and Pi Beta Phi Alumnae Club. Judy is a past member of the Dallas Country Club and Little Sandy Hunting and Fishing Club.

Judy was an original member of St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal church and served on the Altar Guild for many years.

Judy is survived by her four children:

Robert Ford Gardere, John Astin Gardere and wife Mary Jo, Susan Gardere and husband E Bradford Mantz, Edward Callier Gardere, Jr. and wife Anne Laurel.

Her eight grandchildren:

William Arthur Mantz, John-Astin Gardere, II and wife Kennedy, Brooke Mantz and husband Bradley Allaire, Lindsay Gardere and husband Steven Austin, Aimee Gardere and husband Zach Morse, Edward Callier Gardere, III, Robert Joseph Gardere and wife Kristi, Alexander Elliott Gardere and wife Rochelle.

Nine great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Sheila Cooks as a valued caregiver for our mother.

Memorial Service will be at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, December 11, 2025, at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, 8011 Douglas Ave., in Dallas. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Michael and All Angels Altar Guild, 8011 Douglas Ave., Dallas, TX 75225, or a charity of your choice.
