

Kathryne V. (Kitty) Smith Dawson was born on March 23, 1923, in Van Alstyne, Texas, and passed away on her 87th birthday, March 23, 2010. She was born to John Edwards Smith and Maude Hyder Smith. The family moved to Sherman, Texas where she was raised and attended Sherman High School. Circumstances brought her to Dallas where she graduated from North Dallas High School in 1940. Kathryne received her B.S. degree from North Texas State University in Denton in 1943. She was a member of the Delta Psi sorority. Mrs. Dawson began her teaching career at D.I.S.D. as a PE teacher and later as a 3rd grade teacher. Kitty received her M.S. degree in 1955. She married James Thomas (Jack) Dawson on January 30, 1948 in Dallas. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters Valda Pilgram and Hesta Hestand, niece Ginger Hestand Reynolds and Ginger's husband Jack. Kitty was a member of the Eastern Star, The Daughters of the American Revolution, Classroom Teachers Association of D.I.S.D. and Northridge Presbyterian Church of Dallas. She is survived by nephew Rue S. Hestand III and his wife Ann of Florida, their son Rue S. Hestand IV and his wife Carey and their son Rue S. Hestand V. Mrs. Dawson is also survived by many other nieces, nephews and other family. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Friday, March 26th at 11:00 a.m. at Northridge Presbyterian Church, 6920 Bob O' Link Drive, Dallas, Texas 75214. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the church or the Dallas S.P.C.A.
