Born in Dallas on August 3, 1955, to Richard Earl Thorne and Marion Madean Dodd, Kathy grew up with a generous heart, a creative spirit, and a gift for bringing joy to those around her. A graduate of Garland High School, she started as a dispatcher with the Garland Police Department, where she met the love of her life, Ronald Coleman Miles. The two shared 45 beautiful years of marriage until his passing in 2019.
Kathy dedicated over 30 years of service to Garland ISD as a school secretary and campus technology assistant, retiring in 2018. Her warmth, kindness, and dedication touched countless lives of students, teachers, and colleagues. Known for her immense creativity, quick wit, and boundless compassion, Kathy had a way of making everyone feel seen, valued, and loved. She will be remembered for her laughter, her empathy, and the many ways she gave of herself to others.
Kathy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ronald Miles; her parents, Richard and Marion Thorne; her in-laws, Coleman and Rozell Miles; her brother, Joe Thorne; her sons, Baby Boy Miles and Gregory Wayne Miles; and her daughter, Kimberly Elaine Miles.
She is survived by her daughter, Erika Miles Huggins, and husband, Chris; her sisters, Sharon Sims and husband Billy, and Linda Rowell and husband Jerry; as well as many extended family members and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
A graveside service will be held at Grove Hill Memorial Park with Rev. Ann Dotson, Senior Minister of First Christian Church, Rowlett, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a charity of your choice. Kathy supported many causes throughout her life, and nothing would honor her more than continuing that legacy of giving.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Baylor Scott and White Dallas and the T. Boone Pickens Hospice and Palliative Care Center for their compassionate care.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.grovehillfuneralhome.com for the Miles family.
