Kyle Hobin, embraced life for 101 years, leaving this side of heaven March 31, 2022. Kyle was born on February 18, 1921, in Turnersville, a small rural farming town in central Texas, where two generations of the Hobin family owned and operated the general store. That small community provided Kyle with a loving and supportive environment in which he thrived and which impacted his life and legacy. Kyle was 8 years old when the Great Depression occurred and this, too, had a significant impact on how he viewed life from that point forward. Immediately following his graduation from the University of Texas, Kyle enthusiastically enlisted in the U.S. Navy in World War II and served his country on a subchaser despite extreme seasickness.
The greatest influence on his life was through the Unity Presbyterian Church in Turnersville, Texas, where, as a young boy, Kyle was first introduced to a life-giving relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. From early childhood to his last breath, his relationship with Christ led him to have a significant impact on all the lives he touched.
Kyle was blessed to marry Marjorie Jane Vandiver, who was raised in the same community and in the same precious church that introduced so many to a deeply intimate relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. At the time of Kyle’s death, the two had been married almost 75 years. They would routinely share with others that the foundation of their bond was a deeply embedded commitment to the love and respect for each other and a wholehearted dependence upon The Lord. They were blessed with two children, Marsha Hobin Williamson (Steve) and Patrick Kyle Hobin (Emily), six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, with one on the way. Their son-in-law, Steve, and daughter-in-law, Emily, are like their children as well.
Kyle and Jane were preceded in death by their eldest grandson, Scott, who is responsible for giving Kyle his grandfather’s name “D”; many beyond the family called Kyle “D”. Kyle is survived by his grandchildren, Logan Kyle Williamson (Amanda), Kirk Elliott Williamson (Ally), Katherine Quinn Piasecki (Nathanael), Sara Jane Hobin and Grace Ann Staley (Blake).
In 1956, Kyle and Jane began a 35-year career at Highland Park Presbyterian Church in Dallas, Texas. Kyle initially served as the Business Manager and later as the Executive Assistant to the Senior Pastor. During his time at the church, Kyle’s giftedness benefited many church committees, boards of non-profit organizations and universities. While it would be worthwhile to share all of Kyle’s activities and accomplishments, it is far more important to share the character this man possessed, allowing him to be a blessing to others.
In John 13, Jesus set forth an incredible example of humility by getting up from the dinner table and washing his disciples’ feet. Kyle consistently demonstrated a level of humility that was so meaningful, making him approachable and safe. People would talk to Kyle about anything and everything. He was a supreme listener and deeply cared for whomever was standing in front of him. He made you feel like you were the most important person in the world. Kyle truly treated everyone with the same dignity and respect and put others first, especially his family. He maintained a remarkable balance between responsibility and opportunity.
Kyle will be missed for his wonderful sense of humor, his caring spirit, his wisdom and his love for life. Kyle’s legacy will live on for decades through the investment that he made in the lives of others. His faithfulness to his Lord, to his wife and to his family has been a huge blessing; the ripple effects of that go far and wide. His family feels a deep sense of gratitude and thanksgiving for a life well lived that impacted many and pointed all of us to a God who deeply loves us and cares for us.
The service to celebrate Kyle’s life is set for Wednesday morning, April 13, 10:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary of Highland Park Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Counseling Scholarship Fund at Park Cities Presbyterian Church (https://my.pcpc.org/portal/complete-gift?v2glid=218602) based on their deep commitment to marriage and Dallas 24 Hour Club (https://www.betterunite.com/dallas24hourclub-donatetodallas24hourclub) based on their family’s experience with addiction.
The family would also like to thank Joy, Ruth, Needmore and Sydney for their great care of Dad.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.Sparkman-Hillcrest.com for the Hobin family.
