Born on July 17, 1946, and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas, Lana was the daughter of Patty and Milton Fischer. She graduated from Carroll High School and Southwest Texas State University alongside her high school sweetheart, Barry Andrews. Lana’s beautiful smile lit up every room she entered. She loved being a hostess, entertaining friends at dinner parties and welcoming loved ones into her home.
Lana and Barry Andrews were renowned for their civic and philanthropic contributions to their hometown of Corpus Christi where Barry founded Andrews Distributing Company, now one of the nation’s leading beer and spirits distributorships. They continued their love for helping others in their local communities as they expanded their business to Dallas and Fort Worth, sponsoring countless events over the decades. Lana believed and often said, “Giving back is what we do." This included supporting the Cattle Baron’s Ball and the American Cancer Society in both Corpus Christi and Dallas for close to 30 years. Lana and Barry generously hosted the Corpus Christi Cattle Baron’s Ball eight times at their South Texas ranch and their beer distribution center. Additionally, they supported the MD Anderson Cancer Center’s Living Legend Luncheon in Dallas, contributing to cancer research for many years.
Lana was a proud member of The Crystal Charity Ball organization. A highlight for Lana was being named a Hall of Fame Honoree as she was recognized for her elegant style and commitment to the community. Lana proudly served as Co-Chair for the Laura W. Bush Institute for Women’s Health National Advisory Board. She was also a member of the Vital Mind organization and The Sweetheart Ball committee, which benefits cardiology research at UT Southwestern Medical Center.
An avid Dallas sports fan, Lana never missed a Cowboys or Mavericks home game and loved spending time with her wonderful friends there. One of her favorite pastimes was enjoying fun afternoons with her Monday card group. Over the years, she cherished spending her summers in La Jolla, California with her family and many close friends.
Lana and Barry were both active members of Highland Park United Methodist Church.
Lana’s husband, Barry, preceded her in death after 56 years of marriage. She is survived by her two children and their spouses, Natalie and Mike McGuire of Dallas, Texas, and Blake and Tricia Andrews of Scottsdale, Arizona. Lana was the beloved “LaLa” to her four grandchildren, Madison and Sophie McGuire, along with Curran and Bain Andrews.
A private family service and burial will take place. Donations in Lana’s honor can be made to The Crystal Charity Ball and The Sweetheart Ball.
