A beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, LaRoye L. Drennan left this world on May 9th, 2023, at the age of 93. LaRoye was born to Lawrence and Grace Drennan on December 26th, 1929, in Stonewall, Oklahoma, a small town that forever held a special place in his heart. He married the love of his life, Shirley N. Rieger, on March 10th, 1956, and they remained profoundly in love for 64 years until Shirley’s passing on July 6th, 2020. Within the first couple years of marriage, their two beautiful daughters, Kathy and Sherry, were born. LaRoye was a kind-hearted soul that loved his family above all else, and who had a gift for connecting with others from all walks of life. He always took care to crack a joke and put a smile on someone’s face whether he was chatting with a lifelong friend or the cashier at the grocery store.
LaRoye was a graduate of East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma, a U.S. Air Force Korean War Veteran, and a longtime manager with Mobil Oil Corporation from which he retired in 1992 after 38 years of employment. LaRoye loved to travel and his work took him all over, from Midland, Texas, to Jakarta, Indonesia. Wherever he went, Shirley was right by his side, and oftentimes, his daughters flew to meet them abroad. Many of LaRoye’s most fond memories were of traveling with his family. He was a man uninterested in material possessions, but rich in life experiences shared with those he loved most.
When not engrossed with his family or exploring countries far and wide, LaRoye could be found reading a good book or fly fishing with his good friend, Claude McMichael. No matter where LaRoye was or what he was doing, he was a child at heart. He was a rascal to all who knew him, and he worked diligently at being one.
LaRoye was also a member of the Dallas Catholic Church Cathedral Guadalupe.
LaRoye is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley N. Drennan; his brothers, Lt. Col. Lawrence T. Drennan, Jr. and HMC L. Wade Drennan both of Ada, Oklahoma.
LaRoye is survived by his daughter, Kathy M. Wildt and husband, Patrick of Spring, Texas; daughter, Sherry L. Drennan of Dallas, Texas; grandson, James P. Wildt of Spring, Texas; granddaughter, Elizabeth M. Wildt of Boston, Massachusetts; nephew, Michael Drennan and niece, Kathryn Donovan; and many dear friends.
Interment will take place at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Ronald McDonald House, or a charity of your choice.
