Linda Foster Sarris passed away on May 6, 2022. She died surrounded by her family in the arms of those who loved her. She was born Thalia Efestides on August 27, 1936, in Morphou, Cyprus. She immigrated to America at nine years old in 1945. She was preceded in death by her parents, Anastasia Christou Foster and Agamemnon Foster, her husband, Arthur Louis Sarris, M.D., and her daughter Maryann Sarris Mihalopoulos. Linda’s greatest love was her husband and her greatest joys were her daughters. The family is comforted knowing she will be re-joining loved ones.
Linda graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas, Texas. She then attended Southern Methodist University, where she received her B.A. degree. After graduating from Southern Methodist University, Linda began a career as a teacher. She left her teaching career to take over as office manager of her beloved husband’s orthopedic practice. Nothing brought her more joy than to help her family. Linda was devoted to her church, her family and the community of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. She continued her love of education by serving as a Sunday School teacher at Holy Trinity for several years. For decades, Linda held the (honorary) title of best paximadia at the Greek Church. Her family is still trying to replicate the magic that was Linda’s cooking and baking.
Linda is survived by her daughter, Thalia Sarris Banowsky - whom she loved dearly. She also had six grandchildren who she loved and adored more than words can express: Alexandra Sarris Halbardier, her husband, Ford and their children, Louis and Charlotte; Arthur Tingay Brousseau, and his fiancé, Hannah; Meredith Foster Mihalopoulos; Cameron Sarris Banowsky, his wife Bunny and their children, Hieronymus and Nova; William Slater Banowsky, III; and Thalia Claire Wolf, and her husband, Brendan. She is also survived by her son-in-law, Frank Mihalopoulos, who she loved as her own and who will always be his “petheroula”; her brother, Fred M. Foster, his wife, Marsha, and their family; and her sisters-in-law, Katherine Sarris Gregg and Meredith Sarris.
The family extends a special thank you to Dr. Hugh McClung for all he has done, not only for the family, but the entire community. The family also thanks Elsa Ponce and Lucy Remo for the love, support and gentle care they provided to Linda and her family.
The Trisagion Wake service for Linda Foster Sarris will be held at 7:00 pm on Sunday, May 8, 2022; the funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, May 9, 2022. Both services will take place at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church located at 13555 Hillcrest Road, Dallas, Texas, 75240. A memorial reception will follow at the Arthur L. Sarris Community Center. Pallbearers are Will Banowsky, Arthur Brousseau, Ford Halbardier, Brendan Wolf, Dimitri Morris, Rhett Harold Stein, Michael Bratcher and Jimmy Gragg.
