

Lionell William Pipkin was born January 28, 1934 to Lorenzo and Annie Pipkin in Beaumont, Tx. He was the younger of two sons born to this union. He attended elementary and secondary school in Beaumont, Tx and graduated from Hebert High School in 1951. He grew up in Pear Orchard, a small community in Beaumont that helped nurture and develop his humorous, loving, and giving spirit. After completing his primary school education, Lionell decided to serve his country by enlisting in the Army. He served our country for 3 years. After obtaining an honorable discharge, he enrolled in Prairie View University where, in May of 1960, he obtained his Bachelor of Science in Education Degree. In December of the same year he married his High School sweetheart Shirley E. Mitchell. Over the next 10 years they would establish their legacy through their 2 children, the Double D’s, D’Andra and Donald. With his family growing and a passion for education, Lionell decided to pursue and obtain his Master’s Degree in Education, from his Alma Mater, Prairie View in 1971. He used his education to serve the community of Dallas as an Educator and Counselor for 33 years. He retired from Dallas ISD in 1993. He accepted Christ at an early age through West Tabernacle Baptist Church in Beaumont, TX. He took that foundation and became a member of Freedom Missionary Baptist Church, where he served for about 30 years. On August 13th his Heavenly Father brought him home. He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley E. Pipkin. He is survived by his daughter, D’Andra L. Newman, son in law, Paul F. Newman; Son, Donald R. Pipkin; Grandchildren: Briana R. Pipkin, Joshua C. Newman, and Tiffany E. A. Newman; Nephews: Darryl Pipkin (Debra), and Lorenzo Pipkin; Nieces: Alpha Pipkin and Gayle Pipkin; beloved nephews, nieces, grand nieces and nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.
