Lisa Kaleck Thorman (52) a long-time McAllen and Plano, TX resident, passed away Thursday, July 8th in Dallas, Texas after fighting a long and courageous battle with Stage IV colon cancer for over five years. Lisa was born on December 7, 1957 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Lou and Nancy Kaleck and was the second of seven children. After traveling throughout the country the family settled in McAllen in 1965. Lisa attended Jackson Elementary and graduated from McAllen High School ‘76. She loved to dance, having been a student of Melba’s for several years. Lisa discovered her passion for fashion while managing several stores in La Plaza Mall. From here she returned to Phila. to pursue her fashion career and was also featured in several modeling campaigns. Lisa returned to Texas to continue her career in Ft. Worth and ultimately, her dream job, working with Chanel in Dallas.
Lisa married Joel Thorman in 1988 and had a beautiful daughter, Jessica (20). Lisa dedicated her life to raising their daughter (giving her every opportunity in life) and keeping a beautiful home for her family. She was the consummate shopper – there was never a deal she couldn’t find. If there was an honor for “The World’s Best Organizer of
Beautiful Stuff”, Lisa would definitely be crowned Queen. She was also known for her outgoing and friendly personality. Having never met a stranger, everyone’s name was either baby doll or sweetheart, to name a few.
Lisa is preceded in death by her parents, Lou and Nancy Kaleck and her brother, Robert. She is survived by her husband, Joel; daughter, Jessica; sisters: Loura Kaleck Goldstick and Robin Kaleck Center; brothers: Wayne, Mark and David and seven nieces and nephews: Brandon, Julian, Allie, Chandler, Makenzy, Baley, and Emma with many cousins in Philadelphia and many great friends.
Lisa lived a very fun, crazy life, capturing the essence of this great quote:
“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, champagne in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming, “Whoo Hoo, what a ride!”
Funeral services will be held in Dallas at 3pm at Sparkman Hillcrest Mausoleum, Chapel East. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to your favorite charity.
