

Lula Mae (Rodgers) Smith was born in Cason, Texas, on February 14, 1929. She was born to the union of Clay George Rodgers and Tammie Lee (Smith) Rodgers. She was the 8th of 10 siblings, all who preceded her in death: Grover Rodgers, Amanda Traylor, Willie Mae Harper, Richanna Roney, Jeahue Rodgers, Geneva Mitchell, Orea Rodgers, Sr., George Rodgers, and Rosie Rodgers. Lula Mae graduated from J. J. Rhodes High School in Daingerfield, Texas. At an early age, Lula Mae accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at Shady Grove Christian Church in Cason, Texas.
On December 15, 1951, Lula Mae Rodgers (Smith) met and married her loving husband, Eddie Eugene Smith, who preceded her in death, and they joined Boll Street Christian Church (now Warren Avenue Christian Church). To this union, three beautiful girls were born.
Lula Mae Smith served faithfully at Warren Avenue Christian Church. She served as a Deaconess, sang in the Gospel Chorus choir, participated in the Christian Women’s Fellowship (CWF), and was a faithful servant of Warren Avenue Christian Church until she could not attend.
Lula Mae Smith departed this life on April 2, 2024, at her home. Lula Mae leaves to cherish her memory three loving daughters, Louise Yvonne Smith, Elaine Smith (Richardson), and Jacquelyn Marie Smith (Collins). Her six granddaughters, Adrienne Yvette Collins, Christina Louise Richardson, Andronnette Elaine Turk (Sylvester), Dominque Latrece Collins, Octavia Lynn Epie (Njang), and Khandice Marie Donalson. She leaves seven great-grandchildren, Christian Amari Hilliard, Brianna Abbygail Turk, Justin Maurice Turk, Devon Josiah Turk, Ellis Ndopi Epie, Reece Njang Epie, and Jules Abwa Epie; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.
