It is with sadness that that we share the passing of Lyle Frederick Henage on January 11, 2025. After 10+ years of his Parkinson’s diagnosis, Lyle peacefully passed away in his home in Dallas, TX. Born at Fort Lewis, WA, Lyle brought love and joy to those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Throughout his life, Lyle was a shining example of strength and generosity. Before graduating from Brigham Young University and University of Oregon, he grew up with the military community, attending many schools in the US. His adventurous and brazen spirit carried throughout his adulthood as he got to experience Germany, Iceland, Greenland, Norway, Africa, Australia, and Indonesia.
While he enjoyed his days on the field, exploring and mapping the next oil drill, he always found a way to make it home to attend his children’s extracurricular activities. He leaves a legacy that family always comes first. He taught us the true meaning of a life well lived, reiterated through his expression “Never let your choices dictate the life you want to live.”
As a scholar, Lyle knew a myriad of different subjects. No topic was off the table, but he loved discussing politics, philosophy, mythology, and geophysics. Often, you would see his children roll their eyes as he explained the world around us. One of our favorite memories of Lyle was when one of his children asked what thunder is. After he explained in thorough detail, his daughter replied, “Why couldn’t you have said ‘God is bowling?’” Lyle valued honesty and he enjoyed sharing his knowledge.
Following his dad’s mechanical and engineering talent, Lyle found joy in building and racing vintage cars. He was often found in his garage, working and preparing for his next racing trip. He loved shopping at the junk yard, rationalizing by saying “a new project means a new set of tools.”
Lyle is survived by his siblings Carole, Diane, and Jefferey, his wife, Maryann, his children, William and Narti, and his grandchildren, Landon, Gia, Paislee, Nova, and Maddison who will carry his memory in their hearts. He also leaves behind his nieces, Hayley, Nora, and Madeline. We find comfort in knowing he is reunited with his parents Lyla and Frederick and his oldest daughter, Jennifer.
A celebration of Lyle’s life will be held on Saturday, February 1 at Holy Cross Catholic Church at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
