I knew Manny from Worthen Karate Academy.  He was unfailingly kind and encouraging. I had come from an abusive home and in my discovery of karate, I discovered a strength in myself I did not have. Manny fostered this in me. He smiled so much, was both gentle and yet strong. I have always carried fond memories of him, little Manny Jr and Norma in my heart, though it has been many years and I have long lost touch. I am truly grieved to hear of his passing and I pray that in the years since, his family has had peace.

I worked with Manuel and he was the epitome of treating people the way you want to be treated. He was so sincere and a great energy, he always was encouraged and it was from life, it was always from his relationship with God, I will miss him and the times we shared. My prayers are for the family and now you have an amazing angel guiding you through the rest of your lives. God bless

MANUEL WAS MY COUSIN BUT I DON'T KNOW IF I EVER MET HIM IN MY LIFE TIME IF I DID I DON'T REMEMBER HIM I DO SEND MY CONDOLENCES TO HIS FAMILY

My family and I met Manuel and his wonderful family at the Worthen Karate Academy in 1990 in Plano, TX.  Manuel was Sensei Worthen's first Dai Sempai, the first black belt that she trained, and he went on to form his own karate school where he trained many people in the mind, body, and spirit aspects of Wado Shinzen-Kai, which is the style of karate that we all studied.  Sandra, Aaron and I are very grateful not only for Manuel sharing his amazing knowledge of the martial arts with us, but also also for his including us as part of his extended family, and we are forever changed for the better because of it.  Manny, our heart goes out to you and your family.  Your dad set a great example of the 5 traits of a karate-ka that we all strived to master.  Courage, Courtesy, Humility, Integrity and Self-Control.  Although his loss was a terrible shock for all of us, this is what I will always remember about Manuel.  Osu, Manuel.
