Marcus Joe Martinez

Growing up in Dallas, Marcus graduated from North Dallas High School in 1978. During his school years, he was an active participant in sports, playing both football and baseball in middle and high school. His career was spent working at several grocery stores, including Safeway, Minyards, Walmart, Albertsons, and Tom Thumb. Marcus' love for conversation made these environments perfect for him, as he was an extrovert who enjoyed interacting with others.

Marcus was deeply connected to his family. He was especially close to his late mother, Ada, and his sister, Alice. He is survived by his daughter, Angelica, and son-in-law, Jacob, as well as his two granddaughters, Naomi and Micki. “Uncle Marcus” also leaves behind his two beloved nieces, Christina and April, as well as several great-nieces, one great-nephew, and one great-great niece. Marcus was a passionate Dallas Cowboys fan and loved family gatherings, where he would often entertain everyone with his humorous stories, anecdotes, and silly dad jokes.

A kind soul, Marcus was known for his ability to speak easily with anyone, including strangers. His mom would often have to remind him to relax and stop talking as his love for conversation was a defining trait. Marcus' funny life stories will be missed at family parties, but his legacy will live on, especially in his famous quote, "How 'bout them Cowboys?" which he would say regardless of the conversation or occasion.

Funeral services for Marcus Joe Martinez will be held at Gonzalez Funeral Home, located at 3050 N Stemmons Fwy, Dallas, TX 75247. A visitation is scheduled for December 11, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, with a Rosary from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm. The funeral service will take place on December 12, 2025, from 10:30 am to 11:30 am.

Marcus will be dearly missed by all who knew him, but his memory will remain in the hearts of his family and friends, who shall all be comforted by the knowledge that he now will forever have a front-row seat at every Dallas Cowboys game, fulfilling his dream.
