

Margie L. Pinkard Calico was born in Mexia, Texas, as the second daughter of Annie Al Bessie and James L. Pinkard. She attended the public school in the Rocky Crossing Community. By sending herself through college, she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Houston Tillotson College, Austin, Texas. Her love of basketball and tennis earned her partial scholarships, and the ringing of the school bells completed her financial responsibilities. Margie earned her Masters of Education in Special Education at Prairie View A&M College, Prairie View, Texas. After graduating from college, Margie entered the field of education as a teacher. She worked and retired with 55 years of service with the Dallas Independent School District. Margie united with the Methodist church at an early age and was faithful to her church. Her love of education and dream that all children read and understand the Biblical Word was paramount in her 20-year service as Sunday School Superintendent. Margie married Fred Calico, and to this union two children were born. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Calico, and son; mother and father, Annie Al Bessie and James L. Pinkard; and two sisters, Thelma Hollie and Elzadie Dix. She will be forever remembered in the hearts of her daughter and family. She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Janet; her sisters: Gracie Taylor (Charles), Lubbock, Texas; Ruth Hauntz, Lancaster, Texas; Emily Moore, Fort Worth, Texas, and Onetia Pinkard, Nacogdoches, Texas, and many nephews, nieces, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
