Margreat attended King School which served all grades in the rural area between Chillicothe and Quanah in Hardeman County, Texas.
In 1942 she married a King High School graduate and the great love of her life Chester Claude Harmon. If years are any measure of a loving relationship their marriage of nearly 69 years was a grand love story.
Margreat was seldom a passive bystander but always actively involved in many things from being a cheerleader and volleyball player in school; from learning to water ski to hiking mountain trails and leading a Cub Scout Den. She put energy into many creative activities like quilting and sewing, even teaching herself furniture upholstering to make things to her own liking. There was also gardening when it was possible and canning the harvest whether it was from her garden or from others.
Not so much a desired skill but a necessary one was the frequent mending and patching up the cuts and scrapes of her two sons.
One of Margreat’s greatest attributes was her understanding of family. When she married she gained four new sisters and five new brothers in addition to her own brothers plus another mother to love and share life with. To her there were no in-laws or divisions between the two families and she shared her gifts of love and acceptance freely. That sense of family was seen in the frequent trips across the area to visit aunts and uncles and cousins as often as possible.
That sense of love and family grew as her small immediate family had opportunities to move to different cities in Texas as Claude was transferred with his work. Each move opened new opportunities to widen the circle of friendship that continued to grow even as she moved into assisted living.
After her beloved Claude went to be with God in 2011 she made her new home the Juliette Fowler Communities in Dallas. While there she was a regular and faithful member of the Sunday Services at the Schnieder Chapel at Juliette Fowler Communities. The Chaplains Kim Clowe and Sara Beckham gave her support as she grew spiritually in the last five years of her journey.
We are so very grateful for the care she received form the Juliette Fowler Community for the last five years. The staff and volunteers enriched her life in so many ways.
We will be forever grateful for the gift of God’s love shown through our mother’s love.
