Marianna Burt Box

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Marrianna Burt Box who passed away peacefully on October 21st, 2023. She was the beloved wife of 59 years to the late Jerry W. Box, and loving mother to Mandy Paxton and Burt Box who were by her side.

Born December 23, 1941, to William and Mary Burt. Marianna spent her young life in Pittsview, Alabama with her sister Susan and with many family members and friends nearby. She graduated from Shavala High School in Seale, Alabama.

After High School, Marianna Attended the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. There she was able to show her incredible leadership skills through her membership and Presidency of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. She was also a member of the Student Government Association. She earned a Degree in Education. Marianna always had crimson blood running through her veins and never missed watching her beloved Alabama play and win championships.

After college Marianna taught school in Mexico City, Mexico before she landed a job teaching in Savannah, Ga where she met her husband, Jerry. After moving around a few places due to Jerry’s work they found their landing spot in Dallas, Texas. Marianna was always active in her children’s PTA councils and volunteered regularly at their events. She was active in the Dallas social scene and was also involved in several charity organizations including Northwood Women’s Club where she became president.

Marianna and Jerry were active members of Northwood Country Club and The Dallas Petroleum Club. Where she hosted many events and brought people together. Her gift of southern hospitality and kindness towards others played a vital role in her family’s success and was admired by those around her.

In her free time Marianna enjoyed reading and traveling. She was able to travel the world and shop for her love of antiques. She also enjoyed relaxing and spending time with friends and family at her homes in Highlands, NC and on Beaver Lake in Arkansas.

Marinanna was admired and adored by those who had the privilege of knowing her, and she will be missed tremendously.

Marianna is survived by her sister Susan Elliott, her daughter Mandy Paxton and her husband Aaron Paxton, her son Burt Box and his wife Erin Box, along with their five grandsons: Austin Paxton, Andrew Paxton, McCoy Box, Durham Box, and Callaway Box.

Reception with the Family will be Saturday from 11:00-1:00 at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home in Dallas.
