
Marilyn Kendrick Krog, 76, passed away after a brief illness on Sunday, November 11, 2012 in Houston, Texas. Marilyn was born in Dallas, Texas on December 7, 1935, to Alene Martin Kendrick and Arthur Kendrick. She graduated from Highland Park High School and went on to earn a BS in Geology from SMU, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. Marilyn married Joel Krog, also an SMU graduate, in 1956, and together they moved to Washington, D.C. where she worked for the Geological Survey while Joel was in the Air Force. Afterward, they moved to Houston in 1961. Marilyn earned a MA in Geology from Rice University in 1963 and went on to raise 3 children. She had a varied career, which included teaching math and geology at Downtown University of Houston. She owned a mail order plant business and enjoyed working in numerous annual Bulb Marts in Houston. A lover of wildlife, Marilyn participated in numerous annual bird counts in and around the Houston area, in addition to working as a professional wildlife photographer. She loved seeing her grandchildren who will miss her greatly.
Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents and her sister Elaine Kendrick Cunningham formerly of Colorado Springs. She is survived by her loving husband, Joel Thomas Krog, her three children, Carolyn Gilbert and husband Mark of Houston, Mark Krog and wife Stephanie of Dallas, and Linda Springs of Dallas, by her seven grandchildren, Alexandra, Connie, and Andrew Gilbert, Olivia, Julia, Virginia, and Sarah Grace Krog, and Garrett Clabaugh; brother-in-law Lloyd Cunningham; sister-in-Law Ann Meyers and husband, John David Meyers, and eight nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Dr. Jeff Lee along with the entire staff of Hospice Compassus for the attentive care they provided. We want to extend a special thank you to Dee Whitehouse for her dedicated care that she extended to Marilyn.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Houston Humane Society.
Graveside service will be at Sparkman Hillcrest Cemetery in Dallas, Texas, at 12 Noon Friday November 16, 2012.
