Marjorie Jean Newton Taylor affectionately known as Shudda, Miee, MarGi, and Sis. Taylor, entered eternal rest on May 5, 2026, at the age of 82. Born on July 18,1943 in Dallas, Tx to Jesse Lee Newton, Sr. and Arverian Carroll Vaughn, Marjorie lived a life rooted in love, strength, resilience, and devotion to her family, church,
and community.
A proud graduate of Lincoln High School Class of 1961, Marjorie carried the values of perseverance, excellence, and community service throughout her life.
During the 1980s, Marjorie worked for Exxon Mobil, where she was respected for her professionalism, dedication, and strong work ethic. She later dedicated more than 25 years of service to American Airlines, where she built lasting friendships and was known for her warm spirit and commitment to excellence. From August 1999 to July 2005, she also worked alongside Larry Johnson as a Parks and Recreation Assistant, where she played an important role in bringing people together through community activities and events. In this role, she assisted in organizing and supervising recreational programs and special events for children, adults, and seniors. Her warm personality, dedication, and commitment to serving others helped create enjoyable experiences that strengthened the community and enriched the lives of those around her.
For over 20 years, Marjorie faithfully served as the Youth Director at New Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorage of Rev. H.H. Banks and Rev. Gerald Britt. She was known as one of the kindest, most dedicated, and gifted youth leaders many had ever encountered. For Marjorie, ministry was never limited
to church programs, holidays, or scheduled events. Her commitment to the young people she served extended far beyond the walls of the church. She believed in showing up, being present, and making herself available whenever her children needed guidance, support, encouragement, or love.
Whether it was late at night, early in the morning, or during difficult moments in life, Marjorie made sure the youth in her care knew they mattered. If she believed something was needed for her children, no obstacle, custom, or tradition would stand in her way. Her passion for helping young people grow spiritually and personally made her truly remarkable. Her impact on generations of youth and families will never be forgotten.
Marjorie’s dedication to her church and community was unwavering. At New Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church, she faithfully served as President of the Junior Mission, Sunday School Teacher, Choir Member, Mission 2 Member, and Youth Director. Her service extended far beyond her local church, as she was also
instrumental in the True Fellowship District Association Youth Ministry. She was a proud member of the Missionary Baptist General Convention of Texas and Dallas Coalition Christian Women United. Through her leadership, mentorship, and servant’s heart, Marjorie impacted countless lives throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth
community and beyond.
Above all, Marjorie was the heart of her family. She embraced many roles throughout her lifetime — daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, godmother, and friend.
