Mary Evelyn Jackson (Nee Lewis) was born July 22, 1934 in Marietta, Texas to Elvie Lewis and Emma Kate Castell. She is the oldest of sixteen children. She attended L.L. Courtney High in Josephine, Texas where she played basketball and started her love of sports, especially football. She lived in Nevada until she moved to Dallas.
She married Herbert Charles Jackson, Sr. who preceded her from this life in 2010. They were married for fifty years. To this union, two children were born, Charlotte Marie and Herbert Charles Jr.
Mary was a faithful member of Christian Workers Baptist Church, currently under the leadership of Pastor Freddie King. She was a faithful usher until her health halted her ability to serve.
Mary loved to cook. Her signature dishes were greens, chicken and dumplings, and salad. Her favorite thing to ask for was “beans, cornbread and a slice of onion”.
Mary worked for different cleaners and Baylor Hospital many years as a domestic and finally for Oneida Silversmiths in the Dallas Trade Mart and World Trade Center.
Mary was a loving and caring person, a devoted wife, sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, and great grandmother to Elise (Brodie Mae) and Kerringhton (Meme). She always looked out for the underdog.
Mary is preceded in death by sisters, Darcine Bowman of Athens, Texas, Lila Blanche King, Virginia Williams of Dallas, Texas. Brothers, Tommy King, Sonny King, Lewis King and Bennie R. King of Dallas, Texas.
She is survived by her daughter, Charlotte Jackson-Brown, son Herbert Charles Jackson, Jr, granddaughter, Elise Brenayee’ Mary Emma Jackson-Brown, great-granddaughter Kerringhton Marie Greene. Her siblings, sisters Ollie King, Kattie McAfee, Katherine King and Teresa King of Dallas, Texas. Elva Mitchell of Los Angeles, California. Brothers, Jesse King, Jimmy King, Sr (Mary), and Freddie King (Vera) of Dallas, Texas and Curtis Lewis of Los Angeles, California. Her brothers-n-law, Walter Ray Williams and Roman Williams of Dallas, Texas.
