Mary Elizabeth Graham was born on January 22, 1936, in Red Oak, Texas to the late Jackson Graham Sr. and Jessie B. Graham. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized at an early age. She became a member and began serving at Faith Temple Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Pastor Edward Barefield in Waxahachie, Texas.
After graduating from high school, Mary Graham moved to Midland, Texas where she became a member of Faith Temple Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Superintendent W.C. Kenan. She served faithfully on the mother’s board and on the prayer line ministry until her health began to deteriorate.
It was in Midland that she met and married Robert L Johnson. They were married for over forty years before his demise. Sister Mary Johnson had one son, Kenneth R. Graham, who was her pride and joy. They had a close mother-son relationship and would often spend quality time together doing what they both loved to do - cooking.
Affectionately known as “Bitsy,” Sister Mary Johnson was a kind-hearted and giving person who never met a stranger. Her care for people was evident in her career choice as she became an LVN serving for more than 25 years in El Paso and at Midland Memorial Hospital. She cultivated rich relationships with friends and neighbors who were extremely supportive and helpful to her, providing whatever she needed during her times of sickness.
Sister Johnson’s hobbies included sewing, crocheting, completing biblical crossword puzzles, and baking. She loved her six brothers and three sisters and had a close relationship with all of them. However, the depth of the relationship with her sister Dorothy became obvious as she stepped into the role of caregiver, serving Sister Johnson during her later years.
On Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at 7:34 PM, the Lord came to Charlton Methodist Hospital in Dallas, Texas, wrapped Sister Mary Johnson in His arms of love and took her home to be with Him for eternity. Sister Johnson was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert L. Johnson; her son Kenneth Graham; five brothers, Robert Graham, Donald Graham, Willie Graham, Bobbie Graham, and Ben C. Graham; and two sisters, Josephine Byrd and Juanita Gee.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories: two grandsons, Kenneth Williams and Monolito Graham (Sanavia); eight great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Jackson Graham (Billie) and her beloved and devoted sister, Dorothy Pratt; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, church family and friends.
