

Mary, daughter of Victor August and La Verna Margaret Connelly Weis was born on June 28, 1960 at Mercy Hospital Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Her early childhood was spent In Cedar Rapids, IA. In August 1967, The Weis family relocated to the DFW area, Mary continued her education at Saint Paul the Apostle Catholic School in Richardson, TX. She was a member of a local Camp Fire Girls troop that went on week-end camping and exploring activities in North Texas and Southern Oklahoma. After completing her elementary education, she attended and graduated in 1978 from Bishop Lynch High School, Dallas, TX. In the fall of 1978, she enrolled at Texas A&M University and graduated in June 1982. She applied for admission into the College of Veterinary Medicine – she just missed the student limit; however, was placed on the wait list. Undeterred, she was admitted on her next try, and she graduated in June 1989 with her degree in Veterinary Medicine – DVM. She worked at an animal clinic in Allen, TX which had a contract to provide services to the cattle and horses located at the Southfork Ranch. She also worked closely, for many years, with Dr. Mark Carter at his small animal clinic.
Her passion was teaching. In 1992, she started teaching Biology at Collin College, Plano, TX. She completed 30 years at Collin College as a Professor in the Biology Department. During her association with Collin College, a highlight event was her being named to the chair of the College’s Council of Excellence (CoE).
For 19 years, Mary was a volunteer counselor at Camp John Marc, a summer camp for cancer patients of Children’s Hospital, Dallas, TX. Using her Vet degree, she volunteered at the Blackland Prairie Raptor Center (BPRC) where she treated raptors so that they could return to the wild.
She loved music and she played guitar, banjo, and other stringed instruments. She joined the Saint Raphael choir at All Saints Catholic Church and was the lead guitarist for some 40 years. She enjoyed baking and decorating cakes for many occasions. She also liked sewing, and when computerized sewing machines became available, she purchased several and used them to stitch various designs on towels and t shirts. She often used her crafting skills to celebrate key moments in the lives of her family and friends.
Mary is survived by her father, Victor and brothers, Larry and Michael; aunts: Ramona, Helen, Mary Margaret, Jan and Joann; uncle: Denis; sisters-in-law: Anne Marie and Annemarie; nieces: Rebecca, Brianna, Christina, and Maura; nephews: Patrick and Thomas; and longtime friends: Cathy, Julie, Robert, Theresa and various cousins.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Laverna; uncles: James D, Clarence, Milton, Leander, Gene, Raymond and Frank; aunts: Lillian, Marian, Bernadette and Mary Elizabeth; her grandparents: James E and Mary Catherine Connelly and Andrew J. and Cecilia T. Weis.
A memorial service for Mary will take place at 11:00 AM on Tuesday March 17, 2026 at All Saints Catholic Church, Dallas, Texas.
