Born on May 28, 1938 in Cayo de la Rosa, Cuba, Mercedes was the daughter of the late Mario M. Coll Sr. and Fidelina Coll. She was also predeceased by her brother, Mario M. Coll Jr. She was a graduate of The American Dominican Academy in Havana, Cuba.
Mercedes is survived by her loving husband, Heinz E. Reuter, with whom she shared a life rich in adventure, music, and faith. Their enduring bond was reflected in the many years they spent skiing together—well into their golden years—on the snowy slopes they both cherished.
She is lovingly remembered by her sister-in-law, Raquel F. Coll, and her many nieces and nephews: Raquel M. Coll and her daughters Ashley and Nicole Sisson, and Nicole’s fiancé, Zach Clapper; Mario M. Coll III and his wife, Sarah Bradford Coll, and their sons Mario Coll IV (with wife Jennifer), Joseph Coll, and Jake Coll; George A. Coll and his wife, Kristen Coll, and their sons George R. Coll, Wade Coll, and Kristopher Coll; and Mary E. Brody and her husband, Scott Brody, and their daughters Samantha and Rachel Brody.
Mercedes had a long and accomplished professional life, working for the United Nations in New York City, Braniff Airlines, Texas Instruments, and Raytheon Co. Her career reflected her intelligence, dedication, and pioneering spirit.
Beyond her work, Mercedes had a deep appreciation for the fine arts. She found joy in the ballet, opera, and symphony, and supported Dallas’s cultural community throughout her life. Her voice was a cherished part of the choir at St. Monica’s Catholic Church, where she and Heinz were faithful members for many years.
Mercedes lived a full and beautiful life, marked by elegance, adventure, and an unwavering devotion to her loved ones. She will be remembered for her warmth, her love of beauty, and the steadfast way she lived her values.
