Millard Sweatt passed away unexpectedly on October 11th after a brief illness at the age of 73. Born in Dallas to the late Millard and Emily Sweatt in 1943, Millard received his Bachelor's Degree from Tulane University before earning his Juris Doctorate from Southern Methodist University. After graduation in 1970, Millard joined the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas as an attorney, then promoted to Assistant General Counsel in 1977, and promoted to General Counsel and Vice President in 1981. Shortly thereafter, the Texas banking crisis hit. His experience dealing with the crisis proved invaluable to the Federal Reserve as the System dealt with the financial crisis of 2008 and the failure of banks across the country. He was named Secretary to the Board of Directors in 1987 and promoted to Senior Vice President in 1988. During his career, he had responsibility for several departments, and served as the Bank's Ethics Officer. He retired from the Bank in 2012 as Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary with 41 years of outstanding service. He was a member of the Dallas Bar Association, the American Corporate Counsel Association, the American Bar Association, the State Bar of Texas, the French Heritage Society, the Confrerie des Chevaliers du Tastevin, and the Commanderie de Bordeaux. Millard is survived by his son, two grandsons, and many friends and family. He will be remembered for his deep knowledge, quick wit, his love of fine wine and food, and the joy he received from his beloved pugs. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children and the ASPCA are appreciated.
