Monroe Jost, founder and CEO of J&S Audio Visual, Inc., was born in Goessel, Kansas on November 14, 1947. He was known for being a man after God’s own heart who demonstrated honor and respect for his family, friends and associates. He had a love for life, compassion for people, and loved his family. The good Lord took him at the age of 71 at 1:05 PM CST on April 6, 2019.
Monroe was 3 years of age when his mother, Hulda Hiebert, passed away. His six siblings and father, John M. Jost, continued to work the farm which led to a hard life with minimal resources. Monroe was on his own at a very young age with an 8th grade education. He worked various jobs for the next few years. After the Vietnam War began, he was drafted by the Army in January, 1967 in Leavenworth, Missouri and from there, he went for training at the White Sands Missile Base in New Mexico. Following training, he was deployed to South Korea and ultimately to Vietnam. He was stationed on a Nuclear Missile Site and was discharged in 1969 from Active duty. Later, he utilized the GI Bill to obtain his Electronic Technical Degree at Wichita Technical Institute.
Monroe began working at Hoover Brothers in 1971. In December, 1985, he purchased part of the Audio Visual Division from Hoover Brothers and started J&S Audio Visual, Inc. (“JSAV”). Monroe had a real passion for his AV business of 35 years and was devoted to his employees’ and customers’ success. During that time period, he also served on the Board of Directors of the International Communications Industry Association (ICIA) for several years. On November 1, 2017, he sold a majority interest of his company, JSAV, to Ashford, Inc. His plan was to retire in May, 2019 to spend more time with his family and enjoy life.
Monroe was married to Carolyn Klassen from 1971-1996. They were blessed with two wonderful boys. In December 2000, Monroe married his soul mate, Karen Waller Earwood, who loved and cared for him until his death. Monroe is survived by his 3 sisters, Jennette Koehn, Pearl Ensz, and Kathy Ensz; and his two brothers, Gladwin (Smiley) and Glenn Jost. His third brother, John C. Jost, passed away in 2015. Monroe’s sons are Todd Jost and Kevin Jost with wife Nicole and granddaughters Katy 12 and Haley 9. In addition, he has one step-son, Jason Earwood with wife Megan and granddaughter Katie 13 and grandson David 10. Having had six brothers and sisters, there are many 1st and 2nd generation nieces and nephews.
