

Raised in Dallas, Montie graduated from North Dallas High School. Montie furthered her education at SMU where she graduated in 1960 with a B.A. degree in English. At SMU Montie was a member of the Delta Gamma sorority. While at SMU she met the love of her life, Tom Larkin. Montie married Tom in 1961 and taught Journalism and English at Hillcrest High School until she retired once her first son, Mike, was born in 1963. Montie and Tom welcomed a second son, Steve, in 1965. In addition to her job as a full-time mom and running the home, in the early years, Montie helped manage Tom’s dental practice and remained an active member of the Dallas Dental Auxiliary. Montie was a lifelong learner, avid reader, and a woman of deep faith. Montie was a long-time member of the Methodist Church, and an active member of Highland Park United Methodist Church in Dallas until her health declined. Montie loved reading the Bible, was always eager to share words of wisdom, and give a helping hand to others. Montie remained active with Delta Gamma throughout her life, maintained many loyal friends from high school and college, and was a loyal fan of SMU sports. Traveling, skiing and fishing with Tom kept Montie active over the years. Montie was a great mother-in-law to her son’s wives.
Montie was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband of 54 years, Tom. Montie is survived by her son Mike Larkin and his wife Margaret of Houston, Texas and her son, Steve Larkin and his wife Cheryl of Aledo, Texas. She is also survived by five precious grandchildren, Mike and Margaret’s children, Katie, Emery, and Robert (and Robert’s wife Christa), and Steve and his former wife Alecia’s children, Brenna and Alex (and Alex’s wife Nati). She is also survived by her sister Cynthia Nutt and her husband, Bruce of Hillsboro, Texas and their son Ret. Col. Dennis Nutt (and his wife Christian) and his family.
A memorial service will be held in the Cox Chapel of Highland Park United Methodist Church, 3300 Mockingbird Lane, Dallas, Texas 75202 at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2026. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that remembrances be made to the Delta Gamma sorority (SMU chapter) or your charity of choice.
