Myrna was born in Cincinnati; her family moved to Dallas when she was in grade school. She is survived by her daughter Terry Lynn; brother Neal & wife Carmen; sister Carol Peterson; and brother Bruce & wife Bernie. Myrna was preceded in death by her husband Terry last Dec, and by their son Todd in 1976.
The Catholic community was a huge part of Myrna’s life. She attended grade school at Holy Trinity and Christ the King, but Ursuline Academy had the most impact on her life. She graduated from UA in ’54 and earned her B.S. from St. Thomas (Houston). Myrna returned to Ursuline and taught Science for many years. She earned her M.A. in Counseling from UNT while she worked and became the Sr. Guidance Counselor and department head at Ursuline. Myrna spent 30+ years teaching and guiding girls to become successful, strong, young women. While at Ursuline, she touched so many lives, students, faculty and peers. She retired as the Sr. Counselor from The Colony School in ’08, yet still continued to help girls by volunteering weekly at the White Rose Women’s Center. Myrna was also involved in the Holy Spirit Circle at St. Rita.
Myrna truly embraced her roles as counselor, friend, sister, mother and wife. She gave so much to her family, job, church, and community. Myrna embodied the word caregiver. She was thoughtful, kind, warm, supportive, caring, sweet, spiritual, comforting, passionate, and compassionate. She was utterly selfless and saintly, and always had a positive outlook on life.
Myrna and Terry were very sociable and loved to entertain. Myrna especially enjoyed her weekly bridge games with friends. She was intelligent, considerate, elegant, soft-spoken, and enjoyed the company of friends and family. She was a strong, vibrant, and active woman who loved her family and friends and would do anything for them. She will be missed by the many she touched especially by her daughter, family, friends and the numerous students she taught. Myrna’s wisdom and gentle, lovely spirit will always be with us.
A Vigil will be held Thursday, Sept 18, at 6:30 pm and the memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am Saturday, Sept 20, both at Christ the King Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Ursuline Academy or a charity of choice.
