

Nettie's education was provided in Texas.
Nettie relocated to Los Angeles, CA in the 1950's. She married the love of her life in 1966. Nettie worked for Los Angeles County -USC Records Division as a Supervisor in Medical Data Control for many years. She was blessed to earn early retirement from L.A. County at age 55.
Nettie was a member and faithful servant of Emmanuel Temple Church of Lynwood,CA. She accepted Christ and was baptized on June 5, 1970, at the church's oldest location (Main St). She was active in several ministries within the church and became even more dedicated after Abraham was appointed as Head Deacon. Nettie served as a Sunday School teacher, President of the Usher Board, head of the Youth Department, President of the Servant Leader Wives and part of the Missionary Department and Minister Alliance. Her life was God, family and friends.
Nettie was a woman of virtue with a beautiful spirit. She had a zest for life and her committed service to the Lord was evident in all aspects of her life. She was encouraging, patient, kind and caring and loved to land a good joke. She was a loving mom and grandmother.
Longing to be near their family, Abraham and Nettie Mae returned to Texas and built a family home in Cedar Hill. Nettie enjoyed her retirement and being near her grandchildren. She loved and cherished each one of them, and being a part of their daily lives meant the world to her.
Nettie's devoted husband of 59 years, Abraham, her loving daughters Leslie Michelle Smith and Holly Jackson-Fields, and granddaughter LeeAmbra Smith preceded her in death. Nettie was the youngest and all of her siblings preceded her her death: Oran Kemp, Jessie Kemp, Elias Kemp, Tracy Kemp, Marion Kemp, Lessie Kemp, Ruth Ella Washington, Hollis Kemp, Mary Pendergrass, Mozella Coleman, Viola Kemp, Marlene Kemp, Learline Kemp, Bill Kemp and Dave Kemp Jr.
Leaving to cherish her memory are her son, Derrick Bush; her daughter, Adriane Snowden; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A wake service for Nettie will be held Wednesday, October 15, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Laurel Land Funeral Home, 6300 South R.L., Dallas, TX 75232. A funeral will occur Thursday, October 16, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Laurel Land Funeral Home.
