On January 23, 1951, an angelic spirit was born in Dallas, Texas to the proud parents of Gladys Booker Jones and Andrew Bennie Jones Sr. Peggy Louise Jones was the youngest and only baby girl of this union.
Peggy received her formal education from Dallas ISD and graduated from South Oak Cliff High School in 1969. She continued her education at East Texas State University and received her BA from the University of Texas at Arlington. She also earned a CPC (Certified Professional Coder) from the American Academy of Professional Coders. Peggy started her career with the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in the Department of Plastic Surgery. She was recognized as “Coder of the Year” by Dallas Medical Center Chapter AAPC.
At an early age, Peggy began her spiritual journey at Carver Heights Baptist Church of Dallas, Texas and remained a faithful member for over forty years. She served on the Women’s Ministry and Christian Education as a Sunday School Teacher. She proudly led the Usher Board as President and Director for many years. In 2019, Peggy was honored with the prestigious title, “Woman of the Year”, of Carver Heights.
Peggy Jones met the love of her life, Ollie Van Franklin, and dated for five years. In 1971, they united in holy matrimony and to this union was born their only child- Brylon Demond Franklin. Her most favorable times were traveling and hanging out with her family and shopping on “Black Friday” with her nieces.
Peggy Franklin was preceded in death by both of her parents and her husband. Her memories will continue to live in the hearts of those who remain: one child, Brylon; one granddaughter, Drasia; two brothers, Andrew Jones (Kerrie) and George Jones (Vera); one sister, Vickie Benson; two sisters-in-law, Marva Mays and Delores Fambles; three aunts, Frances Jones, Virginia Clemons, and Ruthie Lackey; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members; special friends, former co-workers, and the Carver Heights Baptist Church Family.
A memorial fund has been set up in Peggy Franklin's name with Be The Difference Foundation. Their mission is to create awareness and improve the lives of all people affected by ovarian cancer through education, support and research.
