July 17, 1926 – February 10, 2026
Prothro "Pro" Gaddis, a beloved educator, coach, and veteran, passed away peacefully in Mesquite, Texas, on February 10, 2026, at the age of 99.
Born on July 17, 1926, in Hallsville, Texas, to Votto and Alma Gaddis, Pro was raised in his hometown and graduated from Hallsville High School. He went on to attend East Texas State University, laying out the foundation for a lifelong commitment to education. A proud veteran, Pro also served his country in the United States Navy.
Pro dedicated more than 38 years to the Dallas Independent School District. As a schoolteacher and coach, he influenced generations of students, instilling values of teamwork and perseverance both in the classroom and on the field. He had a strong faith and was also a faithful member of Sunnyvale Baptist Church.
In 1946, Pro married his first wife, Viola, and together they raised two children. In his spare time, Pro was a man of many passions; he found great joy in gospel singings, traveling, and watching sports. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family, with a particularly soft spot for his grandchildren.
Pro will be remembered by all who knew him for his vibrant sense of humor. A natural jokester who loved a good prank brought laughter and light to every room he entered.
