December 9, 1948 – January 12, 2026
Rogelio “Roger” M. Trevino was born on December 9, 1948, in Alice, Texas. He was raised in Agua Dulce, Texas, where he attended Agua Dulce High School and developed the strong work ethic, humility, and steady character that defined his life.
Roger proudly served in the United States Navy for four years as a radar operator aboard ship, attaining the rank of Petty Officer Second Class (E-5). His naval service took him all over the world, sparking a lifelong love of travel and an appreciation for new places, people, and cultures.
Following his military service, Roger attended Bee County College, earning an associate degree before beginning a distinguished 37-year career with the Federal Aviation Administration. He began his career in Air Traffic Control, Flight Services in Alice, Texas and it took him throughout the state, including Houston, McAllen, Highland Village, McAllen again, San Angelo and Fort Worth, Tx. He rose through leadership positions and served as Facility Manager of several Flight Service Stations. Through dedication and leadership he rose to the rank of GS-14 and served as a Regional Support Specialist in the FAA Southwest Region, Air Traffic Division where he worked with Laser Technology and Procedures. He retired in 2010, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism, mentorship, and unwavering commitment to aviation safety.
A lasting legacy that lives on is with his leadership in the National Hispanic Coalition of Federal Aviation Employees (NHCFAE) where he served as the National President and mentored several leaders that served with him and after him. His dedication to diversity, equality and inclusion was heartfelt and one of his most admirable qualities.
No matter where his career took him, Roger always found a church to call home. His faith was a cornerstone of his life. He worshiped faithfully at Templo Bethel in Pharr, Texas, and later at Bethesda in Fort Worth, Texas. A loyal servant and devoted believer in Christ, Roger believed deeply in the power of prayer. Even in his final days, he continued thanking the Lord and praising His name, offering a powerful testimony of steadfast faith and gratitude.
On March 29, 1969, Roger married his neighbor and the love of his life, Ernestina Garcia. Their marriage was one of deep devotion, partnership, and enduring love, and together they built a family that was always his greatest pride.
Roger was an artist at heart. He loved woodworking, sketching, and creating with his hands, finding peace in craftsmanship and creativity. A lifelong Texas Longhorn fan, he followed Longhorn football with enthusiasm and loyalty. While he reluctantly supported TCU during his granddaughter’s time there, he made it abundantly clear — with good humor and firm conviction — that he would never support OU, even for his grandson Landry. Late in life, he also found an infinity for running and exercise. He completed 5 Cowtown Half Marathons, the last two in his sixties.
Above all else, Roger’s greatest passion was his grandchildren. No matter their interests or pursuits, he was always there — cheering them on, supporting their endeavors, and loving them unconditionally. Being their grandfather was his greatest joy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ramon Trevino and Jesusa “Susie” Trevino.
Roger is survived by his beloved wife, Ernestina Trevino; his daughter, Terri L. Draper, and her husband, Derek Draper; his son, Rogelio Trevino Jr., and his wife, Emma Trevino; his brothers, Ramon Trevino Jr., Julian (Lucy), Lorenzo (Diana) Trevino, and Rene (Minnie)Trevino; his sister, Debra Soto; and his cherished grandchildren, Madison Draper and Landry Draper, and Vivienne Trevino and Aurelia Trevino. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, and his love for his family was evident in everything he did.
Roger will be remembered for his steady presence, creative spirit, faithful heart, humor, and deep devotion to his family. His life was one of service, craftsmanship, faith, and love — a life well lived and deeply cherished.
