

Roosevelt Echols was born in Ellis County, Texas, on December 24, 1938, to Claude Echols and Vera Rogers. He attended Ellis County schools and would go on to serve in the United States Army as a radio operator. In 1959, Roosevelt married Vikki Marie Holden and to this union he was blessed with his first daughter. In 1973, he married Abbie Calvin in Dallas, Texas. This union would provide Roosevelt with two more blessings, another daughter and a son. Roosevelt began a career at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas in 1966, where he remained until his retirement in 1999. He coached the baseball team at Blue Cross Blue Shield and was on the bowling league. He was excited to retire and spend more time traveling with his wife and children. He was a faithful member of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship in Dallas, Texas where he often volunteered in various ministries.
Roosevelt was a devoted family man and dearly enjoyed the company of his family and friends. He was known to have a very jovial personality and often kept his family and friends laughing. Roosevelt was an avid domino player, a game which he enjoyed playing with his nephews and close friends. He taught several of his nephews how to play the game. He found great blessings in his children whom he relished in their accomplishments. He had a great love for his grandchildren and enjoyed spending an abundance of quality time with them, supporting them in their personal activities and taking them fishing.
Roosevelt departed this life on Saturday, June 26, 2021 in Dallas, Texas, with his daughter and wife lifting him in love. He is survived by his wife, Abbie; two daughters, Roslyn (Alfred) Baker of Richardson, Texas, and Tameka (Nick) Phillips of Desoto, Texas; son, Corey (Cassandra) Echols of Katy, Texas; five sisters, Moselle Edwards, Gloria Malone, Eloise Echols, Lillian Echols, and Shirley Echols; two brothers, Claude Echols and Larry Echols; seven grandchildren, Jakeel Winfield, Caleb Baker, Justin Echols, Coen Echols, Jayden Phillips, Mackenzie Phillips, and Colin Echols; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Preceding Roosevelt in death were his parents, Claude and Vera Echols; two brothers, Richard Clarence Echols and Herman Echols; and nephew, Larry Darnell Echols II.
