

Sammy attended Grade School from 1930-1938, Jr. High from 1938-1940 in Purdy , Missouri, and Senior High School from 1940-1942 in Springfield, Mo. On December 9, 1942 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy Air Corps. He began actively serving his country during WWII on April 15, 1943. During his service ranked as an AvCad S2c he served at the following stations: NACSB Kansas City, Mo.; NAPTC Regional Office Kansas City, Mo.; USNPFS Del Monte, Ca.; USNAS Hutchinson KS.; USNAS Glenview, Ill.; NAS Pensacola, Fl.; USNTC Great Lakes, Ill.; NATecTraCen Norman, Ok.; RS Nyd Philadelphia, Pa.; USS Lake Champlain (CV39) R/S Brooklyn,; US Naval Reserve Armory, Chicago, Ill. While in the Navy he attended A.M.M. and A.B.M. Schools. He separated from the Navy with an Honorable discharge on January 23, 1946. From 1946 thru 1950 he worked for Trailmobile Company as a sheet metal worker. From 1950 thru 1953 he was employed by Intercontinental Mfg. Co. working as a Leadman for one year in Detail Fabrication and in the Planning Department for two years. In 1953 he joined Temco Aircraft Corporation working as a Tool Engineer for three years and as a Senior Planner for four years. In 1960 thru 1969 he worked in Facilities and Fleet Management for Collins Radio and in 1969 thru 1989 he joined the Gulf Insurance Company team as a Fleet Manager. He started his own construction company, AC Construction, in the early 1980’s which he successfully ran until his health declined in 1995.
Sammy met his wife Doris Marie Allman at First Baptist Church of Springfield, when he was 17 and she was 16 and on February 17, 1945 they were married. Active in his church he loved to sing and was a Tenor in his choir. In 1950 he was offered work in Texas and moved his family to the Dallas area which he remained in until his death.
As well as the best father any child could hope for, Sammy was a kind soul and would give anyone the shirt off his back. His love for others was apparent in all the friendships he acquired throughout his lifetime. Sammy loved anything to do with the outdoors. He especially loved to hunt and fish and was a life Member of the Texas State Rifle Assoc., National Rifle Assoc. and Bass Anglers Sportsman Society. He was a master craftsman of both metal and wood working. He was credited for building beautiful homes in the Dallas area, and was involved in the design and construction of the new sanctuary of Lochwood Baptist Church, as well as the remodeling of the old sanctuary which he and his family were members of. One of his prized wood working projects was a hand crafted cradle he built when his first grandchild was born, which all his future grandchildren would use.
Sammy was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Marie Allman; his son Jerry Arthur Allman in 1962 who was 15 years old at the time and his parents, John William Allman and Eula Grace Powers.
Survivors include his three children: Danny and wife Janie of Garland, Texas; Ronnie and wife Cathy of Rowlett, Texas; Cynthia and husband Ralph of Garland, Texas; eight grandchildren: Brad, Allison, Melissa, Ronnie II, Jessica, Samantha, Angela and Adam; three great grandchildren: Lillian, Eleanor and Vivien; Sister Leona Mae Thompson of Sun City, Az.; Brother and wife J.W. and Phyllis Allman of Bella Vista, Az.; one niece and several nephews.
