

With deep sadness, but thankful for his love and life, we announce that Samuel Wilson Scott passed away on July 10, 2023 in Rapid City, SD. from complications of Parkinson’s Disease.
Sam was born in Long Beach, California, on October 21, 1935 before moving to Lubbock, Texas. He lived in Lubbock until his junior high school years, when he moved to Dallas and then attended Highland Park High School. He graduated from SMU in Dallas in 1954, earning a B.S. in Geography and went on to earn an M.S. also in Geography from the University of Colorado. Sam spent three years in the Army and the Army Corps of Engineers. He was fortunate to get assigned to the Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory in Hanover, NH. He conducted climate research in Greenland at Camp Century and in Alaska on Mt. Wrangell. While in the Army, Sam married Anne Garrer in 1962 in Haarlem, The Netherlands.
After leaving the Army, he joined Bank of America in 1964 in San Francisco in their European Division which sent him and his family to Antwerp, Belgium. Later, he became CFO for Levi Strauss Europe in Brussels, Belgium. In 1973, he joined Interfirst Bank in Dallas, Texas, where he and his family lived for 45 years. Sam earned a degree in Ranch Management from TCU, which served him as he managed family farm and ranch properties until shortly before his passing. The last ten years of his career, he was CFO for ROMCO in Dallas, TX. After retiring, he served on their Board of Directors. Sam helped found Chamber Music International in Richardson, TX.
Sam is survived by Anne, his wife of 60 years; by his son Willem of Buena Vista, CO.; his daughter Frances Miller (Spencer) of Rapid City, SD.; and son Andrew (Saskia) of Amsterdam, The Netherlands; and by his grandchildren, Henry, Nicholas, Wilson, Rhett, Elliot, Wesley, and James; his sister Tandy Brandt (Bill) of Tyler, TX.; and numerous nieces and nephews in both Texas and The Netherlands.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents Archie and Dorothy, his brother Roger, and his daughter Christy.
A celebration of his life will be held at the Chapel at Sparkman-Hillcrest on September 16, 2023 at 10:00 am with a reception to follow.
