

Shirley Jean Batiste was born August 20, 1939 to the parentage of Antoine and Elise Jean Batiste in South Louisiana. Her early education included having been a graduate of Southern University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and a Masters of Education Degree from Prairie View A & M University. She had further studies at Baylor University, the University of Dallas and the University of North Boone, Carolina. She is a retired school teacher from the Dallas Independent School District. She taught CCD classes at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church. She was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Clara Church School. She taught for a very short period of time at Southern Bible Institute College. She was a member of the Knights of Peter Claver Ladies of Auxiliary Court 89, Ft. Worth, Texas. She was also a member of the St. Elizabeth of Hungary Altar Guild. She was united in holy matrimony to Morris Curlee. No children were born of this union. However, she has three God-children:
• Linkston Cryer, Jr., D.D.S.
• Janice Marie Barras
• Garland Jean-Batiste
Dr. Byron Cryer has always been her angel. Towards her latter days, her “adopted” niece, Ms. Sharon Norman, was a source of great comfort and support. She was preceded by her parents, Antoine Jean-Batiste and Elise Lee Jean-Batiste and her sister, Helen Jean-Batiste Murphy. She leaves to survive her: a brother, Allen Jean-Batiste, nieces and nephew, Glenda Walker and Marvin Jean-Batiste and Jakeithia Prejean and Devin Jean-Batiste, as well as a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
