Shirley Ann (Wood) Scott was born September 10, 1928, in St. Louis, Missouri, and died July 30, 2025, in Dallas, Texas. She met and married Dave Scott in Fulton, MO, and his career brought them to the
Dallas area after a brief stint in Kansas. Dave's career also led to nine wonderful years in Alice Springs, Australia, where they made many lasting friendships and enjoyed many fantastic experiences. In addition to being active members of the 4-Wheel Drive club, Shirley found time to play bridge and placed third in an Australian national duplicate competition!
Shirley taught for a number of years in both Dallas and Alice before "retiring". She enjoyed genealogy research and identified family members coming to North America as long ago as 1630 and to the United States as recently as 1918. She enjoyed knitting and was a loyal Texas Rangers fan. Her volunteer work included Medisend, Pioneer Ladies, Salvation Army, and Babies in Need. She was a long-time member and past president of Newcomers Club of Dallas and was a member of Ridgeview Presbyterian Church.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. George Frank Wood; her husband of almost 69 years, David Angus Scott, Jr.; her sister, Betty Lou (Wood) Overhulse; and a son, Jeffrey Wood Scott. She is survived by three children, Karen Scott Moore, David Angus Scott, III, and Gregory Brian Scott; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
A graveside service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 7405 W. Northwest Highway, Dallas, TX.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Forefront Living Foundation, Salvation Army of North Texas, Dallas Zoo, or Alzheimer's Association Greater Dallas.
