“Stanley” Brewer was a gentle spirited man of God who loved the Lord, loved his wife, loved his son, his siblings and ALL of his family. He always left a lasting impression on those he met. While you are quietly reading Stanley’s Obituary, I’m quite sure you would want to know, “WHY?”…Stanley left lasting impressions upon others!
Well— Let me share with you…
The tone of Stanley’s voice was “mild and meaningful” and his movements were “gentle and smooth”. He was a dapper dresser and was always shaven, clean-cut and well tailored in his clothing. He was gifted with his hands and created masterful pieces of carpentry work in his lovely home. He and his wife had beautiful holiday decorum, especially during the Christmas holidays.
Stanley was a lover of classic cars. He indulged in keeping he and his wife (Pat’s) vehicles well maintained. Although he moved from the “country” (Cooper Road/Shreveport) he became a “city boy” who absolutely loved horses. He took care of his family the Old Fashion way by cooking, cleaning and making sure he attended family gatherings and family celebrations. He spent lots of one-on-one time with his only son Kendrick, with his wife (Pat) ALWAYS close by. I did share with you that he was a country boy right? Well, Stanley and Kendrick would hit the lakes and ponds around the city and go fishing. Yep! Just as you probably assumed (or even if you didn’t), Stanley would bring those fish home he and Kendrick caught and he would clean them, and drop them in the HOT grease to cook for some “sho nuff” country eating, which he absolutely loved!
However, Stanley knew that an education for Kendrick was very important and he made certain Kendrick went to college. Stanley, along with Pat, sent Kendrick to Prairie View A&M University. He was so proud when his baby boy graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Architecture. He didn’t say much, but he showed the pride he felt through his smiles and snare grins at the masterful pieces of artistry created by his “gifted son” through his paintings. He and his wife were a team and they grew more and more in love day by day. He maintained his home with “joy” and you would find he and his wife keeping their yard well manicured with “pride”. Stanley didn’t meet a stranger. He enjoyed outings and most of all family celebrations. Stanley just loved to have a GOOD OLE TIME!!!
A Time to Be Born...
Stanley was born on February 14, 1957, the sixth of eight children to the late Deacon John L. Brewer, Sr. and Dorothy Mae “Madear” Brewer (who both preceded him in death). He grew up on the Cooper Road (now known as Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive) with the coined “8 Is Enough Krewe” (4 boys and 4 girls). You would always find Stanley’s (Smooth) calm nature interacting with absolutely everybody!
Stanley confessed Christ and was baptized at an early age at The Willow Chute Missionary Baptist Church by the late Rev. Robert Terrell.
A Time to Live...
Stanley retired from Dallas County as the Sign Shop Supervisor with 29 years of service dedicated. Stanley attended Caddo Public Schools and graduated from Green Oaks High School in the Class of 1975. After completing High School, he knew that “Daddy” had an expectation for him to begin working on a job. Stanley was a “trendsetter” and because he had an aura about himself, he decided to venture out on his own and pursue better paying jobs towards the Dallas, Texas, area.
A Time For Marriage & Family...
Stanley united in Holy Matrimony to Patricia “Pat” Masters Brewer on March 30, 1985. A handsome baby boy was born to this union of marriage. The Bible says in Proverbs 18:22, “He who finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor from the Lord”. Stanley found a “good wife” in Pat. Pat will tell you herself, “I have a good husband!” The two did everything together. They took care of one another through sickness and health. They sent and encouraged their baby boy “Kendrick” all the way through grade school and college. They watched Sunday football together, went on trips, ate in their favorite restaurants, laughed together and cried together. They made family a priority by going and coming to family gatherings such as retirement celebrations, graduations, and weddings in different cities and states. You could always count on the two of them to be present with a gift for every occasion wearing their beautiful smiles, giving positive words, and Stanley was certainly going to steal the show as he dressed to impress.
A time for Relaxation & Service...
Stanley and Pat both retired after working many years. On any given day or evening after they ate breakfast, dinner, fed the horses, cleaned up the vehicles, or after working in the yard, you would more than likely find Stanley in his recliner with his wife Pat close by. They would call in and check on Kendrick, but most importantly enjoyed one another’s company. The two would attend church together Sunday after Sunday. Stanley sang in the Male Chorus, was a part of the Brotherhood Ministry, and was a Deacon at New Birth Missionary B.C. Stanley and Pat loved music and they would often listen to Gospel songs that they loved to hear the choir sing at home. Stanley stepped out on God’s word. He knew that “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord.” —Psalm 37:23.
