Stephen, I chose this picture of you as a reminder of your spirit, your smile, and your willingness to do what it takes to help others and enjoy life. I see your smile, and it makes me smile and recall the many memories we shared.  The pain of realization that you have passed through those doors into Heaven to be with God is mitigated by the joy we have knowing you are in Heaven. We can still feel your presence. I believe that you are now a Guardian Angel to your family and friends. A role you cherished every day you were here with us. We will meet again and look forward to that day. Stephen’s life was filled with passion—for the outdoors, for people, and for creating meaningful connections. He never met a stranger, and nearly everyone he encountered shared a link through a mutual friend. An avid outdoorsman, he devoted his life to hunting, fishing, and time in the mountains. A skilled trap and clay shooter as well as a rifle marksman, he was instrumental in forming the Park Cities Quail chapter in Dallas. For more than a decade, he played a central role in organizing its annual dinner, serving as Dinner Chairman in 2011. He later served on the Board of Directors for Quail Coalition and was a Life Member of the organization.

In addition to his love of the outdoors, Stephen was a passionate golfer. He designed his backyard to feature greens inspired by Augusta National’s iconic holes 11 and 12. He played courses around the world—from Hawaii to Switzerland to Italy—with one of his most memorable experiences being an impromptu round at the legendary Cypress Point, arranged over dinner with friends at Pebble Beach.

Stephen is preceded in death by his mother, Loey Baird Bass Hill, and father, William Lanier Hill.

He is survived by his loving wife, Christy Thompson; his daughter, Mary Louise “Mia” Hill; his brother, David Hill; his sisters, Sarah Jane Francis and her husband Will, and Mary Martha Cone and her husband Jay; his niece, Sarah Katherine Francis and her husband Travis Stenseth; his nephews, William Thomas Francis, William Avery Cone, and Timothy Burr Cone; and his great-nephew, Braden Stenseth.

Stephen’s presence was a gift to all who knew him. He lived with integrity, dedication, and heart. He will be remembered for his big personality, quick wit, and the way he could light up a room. His absence leaves a tremendous void, but his legacy of love, friendship, &  loyalty lives on.

A Celebration of Life will be held on October 9 at 6:00 PM at the family’s private home.

Stephen Herbert Hill, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, “blebo,” and loyal friend to all, entered into God’s kingdom on September 16, 2025. Born in Dallas, Texas, on March 21, 1963, Stephen lived a life marked by generosity, service, and connection.

A proud graduate of Highland Park High School, Class of 1982, Stephen was known for his charisma, leadership, and warm spirit. He never hesitated to help others—whether fixing something around the house, lending a hand in a time of need, or simply being present. As a young man, he was an active member of Boy Scouts of America Troop 35, where he embraced the values that guided him throughout his life. After a year at Shriner College, he was accepted into to the Texas Christian University’s renowned Ranch Management Program.  Stephen was also a proud member of the Cherokee Nation.

Stephen met his wife, Christy Thompson, through their shared love of hunting. They married on June 23, 2018, in a beautiful ceremony in Hawaii. Together, they built a full and joyful life in Dallas, where Stephen was an active member of the community and a welcoming presence at the Dallas Country Club. One of his most treasured memories was harvesting a buck with Christy at his beloved property in Granbury, Texas—now proudly displayed in their home.
