Thomas (Tommy) R. Hartnett IV, 76. Tommy passed away peacefully with his children and loved ones on January 30, 2022 after a brief battle with colon cancer. Tommy was born in Colorado Springs, CO to Tom and Betty Hartnett. He grew up in Dallas and was the oldest of 5 children. He met his beloved wife Ruth when they were teenagers. They married in 1967 and were together until her passing in 2013. They had two children, Hiram and Hilary. Tommy served in the United States Army and was also a Vietnam Veteran.
Tommy’s passion around conservative politics, world history, his pets, horses and being able to build almost anything always energized him. Nothing compared to his dedication toward his grandchildren: Chase, Shaelyn, Kylie, Will, Laurie Grace, Zoey, Addison, and Ryan. “Grandad” will remain a legend to the grandchildren and their children in the years to come.
He is survived by his children, son Hiram Hartnett and his wife Kara, and daughter Hilary Pirkle and her husband Bill, his grandchildren, his sister Jeanine Hartnett, and brothers Dennis Hartnett and Glenn Hartnett. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Libby Boggess and her husband Holly and brother-in-law James Fox, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Tommy's life will be held on Thursday, February 10, 2022 at Grove Hill Funeral Home and Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made with a donation to Doodle Rock Rescue, in honor of his love for dogs: www.doodlerockrescue.org
