Tom was a third generation Texan who was proud to mention that his children, their spouses and all six of his grandchildren were also Texans. And they, and his bride, were at the very core of everything he did.
Tom was born in Dallas on October 20, 1951, to Earl Norwood, Sr. and Elizabeth Jane Patton Jackson, a WWII veteran and a southern belle. Tom was the perfect mix of sweet and strong, caring and brave, all of which he displayed up to his final breath. He graduated from Highland Park High School and went on to attend Trinity University and the University of North Texas, where he obtained a degree in accounting. He then graduated from SMU Dedman School of Law and, in 1982, began his career as an Attorney and Counselor of Law. And that was who Tom ultimately was: a great counselor to so many in so many ways.
He was a seeker of wisdom. Words and their meaning were important to Tom. He read everything. He highlighted sections of articles that he thought were of special interest and often shared them with others. We have stacks of them and his musings. Every Sunday during church, Tom would fill the margins of his Bible with notes on sermons, birthdates, milestones, loses and happenings of life. He was on his third Bible.
Tom was a cheerful giver, not only to the Lord, but in his general approach to life. He offered his insights, his resources and his home to others in untold ways. He wanted his children to experience life to the fullest. He loved to take them and their friends on trips. When he sent his children to Kanakuk, he sent others. He enjoyed adventures in dining and there was always room for guests at his table. Tom saw to it that Sunday nights were family night, and he acted as host and chef for years. Though it will never be the same, that tradition will continue in remembrance of him. After one of his last Sundays with his family, he spoke of how saddened he was to no longer be able to play Uno with his grandsons. Thank you, Tom, for the many beautiful memories of places and experiences we will have with you forever. We love you to the moon Tom Jackson.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 20th, at 3:00 pm at First United Methodist Church Richardson, 503 N. Central Expwy., Richardson, TX, 75080. A reception will follow at his home; complete details to be provided.
In lieu of flowers, please remember Tom with a donation to the charity of your choice.
