

Thomas Manning Hooke I, 78, of Dallas, Texas, passed away on April 22, 2023 surrounded by his loving family, after a long battle with Frontotemporal Dementia. He was born on May 6, 1944, in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, near his childhood hometown in Short Hills, New Jersey. Tom and his family frequently spent summers at their summer home in Noyac, Long Island, New York where several generations of family would gather year after year to spend time on the water creating many cherished memories together.
Tom moved to Texas to attend Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, where he graduated with his bachelor’s degree in 1968, followed by his MBA in 1969. In 1970, Tom met the love of his life, Sylvia Miranda. They were married in July 1971 and together they built a beautiful life in Texas filled with love, adventure, and family. After several moves between Dallas and Houston, Tom and Sylvia ultimately found their own happy place on the “Texas waters” at Cedar Creek Lake.
Tom enjoyed a successful career in advertising before retiring at the age of 60 when he joined his wife Sylvia in their real estate business. Tom had many interests that he pursued with enthusiasm.
His passion for rock collecting led him to acquire an impressive collection of rocks. He also had a life-long interest in turtles, a love that he passed down to his children and grandchildren.
Tom enjoyed spending time with family, supporting Sylvia’s career and mastermining genius advertising ideas for companies such as American Airlines, Texas Tourism, JCPenney and Exxon. Tom enjoyed new experiences and traveling the world. He also loved being near the water. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, son and friend.
Tom was preceded by his mother, Elizabeth Salter Hooke, and father, Robert Lowe Hooke. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Hooke; all his children, Sheryl Hooke, Shannon Prager, Stephanie Cusick (James), Thomas Hooke, Jr. (Missy); his grandchildren, Wayne Thompson, Avery Prager, Robert Prager, Samantha Prager, James Cusick, Jack Cusick, Robert Cusick, Annie Hooke, Aubrey Hooke, and Thomas Hooke III; and all his siblings, Elizabeth Luke (James), Virginia Martens (William), David Hooke (Jennifer), and Robert Hooke.
A celebration of Tom's life will be held on May 11, 2023, at 10:00 AM at Sparkman Hillcrest in Dallas, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to www.BluefieldProject.org in Tom's honor. Tom will be deeply missed by his family and friends. May his memory live on through the many lives he touched.
