Travis Dewayne Hood Sr.

Travis D. Hood, Sr. passed on Friday, November 13, 2015 at Charlton Methodist Hospital in Dallas, Texas.

Travis was born on May 2, 1940 in Tyler, Texas to Otis and Alice Hood (both now deceased).

Like his father Otis, Travis’ entire life was spent as a self-employed brick mason, which he loved and he was very skilled in his trade.

Anyone who knew Travis knew that he had quite the sense of humor and never met a stranger. He loved family, fishing, BBQs and talking with people anywhere and anytime about the Bible.

Travis married at a young age and that marriage produced five children (Debra, Vonda, Travis Jr., Tracie and Tonia). In Travis’ adulthood, he developed a thirst for Bible knowledge and began studying the Bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses, eventually becoming baptized Witness in 1991. Travis and his son, Travis Jr., were baptized at the same convention in Fort Worth, Texas. All five of their children are currently Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Travis entered into marriage with Gloria Lacy of Houston, Texas and they made their residence in Dallas.

Travis is survived by the following: his wife, Gloria Lacy. Gloria has four children: Michael Brown (Athens, Texas), Tanika Brown (Katy, Texas), Daniel Lacy (Houston, Texas) and Womanda Whyte (Houston, Texas).

Travis’s siblings: Susie Hood-Johnson (Dallas, Texas), Billy Joe Hood (deceased), Jacquelyn Elaine Hood (Tyler, Texas), Rainey L. Hood (Dallas, Texas), Nyta Rochelle Hood-Fields (Tyler, Texas) and Otis DeWitt Hood, Jr. (Tyler, Texas).

Travis’ children from previous marriage: Debra Hood-Bailey (Grand Prairie, Texas), Vonda Turner and husband Kevin (Cedar Hill, Texas), Travis Dewayne Hood, Jr and wife Lisa (Memphis, Tennessee), Tracie Jones and husband Draden (Cedar Hill, Texas), and Tonia Pickett and husband Patrick (Cedar Hill, Texas).

Travis also has 13 nephews, 15 great nephews, 6 nieces, 6 great nieces, 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. He also leaves a host of other relatives and friends.

A memorial service to celebrate Travis' life will be held on Friday, November 20, 2015 at 10 AM at Grove Hill Funeral Home.
