She is survived by son Timothy Bullard of Grants Pass, Oregon and his wife, Mary Ann Bullard, grandson Zachary Bullard of Elmhurst , New York, his wife Krystal Bullard and two great-grandchildren Velo and Ellovy Bullard, of Elmhurst, NY.
Virginia was born to Lee and Ruby Roberts in Sulphur Springs, Texas, Sept. 13, 1924.
After Wayne returned from World War II they moved from Sulphur Springs to Shreveport, Louisiana briefly then on to Dallas, Texas.
Virginia worked at Texas Instruments during the mid 1950’s and then for Kroger Grocery in the 1960’s. Virginia and Wayne spent many hours on the country and western dance floors in the 1950’s. She, spinning in poodle skirts, while Wayne kicked up his heels wearing cowboy boots emblazoned with a Texas long horn steer on the black stove-top front.
During phone and personal conversations during the last few years with her son Tim, Virginia shared these quips about her thoughts on life, death and time she spent growing up in Sulphur Springs, Tx.:
"Your Dad was in the sixth grade and I was in the seventh…I was smarter than him…We met in study hall. The teacher moved his desk behind me. He said, 'Now I don't have to break my neck to turn back and look at you.'" But he did dip her pigtails in the ink well of his school desk. “Well, she kept flipping her hair in my face.” Wayne once said. Also one time he ran out and crammed a cane fishing pole through her bicycle spokes. “She wouldn’t stop riding her bicycle up and down in front of my house….”
Virginia said, “Everything changes…The first 95 years is a mess…That's life, you either leave it or let it go…When it comes your time there's nothing you can do about it…”
And finally this, “I just enjoy what life I have. I don't feel sorry for myself. We all have to die and my time is coming. But I just don't dwell on it….One thing about it, we’ll all live through till we die….”
The family would like to thank the kind and helpful nurses and social workers at Comfort Hospice including Frank, Christian and Humphrey and the management and staff at Mesquite Tree Nursing Home.
