He was born in Sherman, Texas on October 8, 1933 to Willie Waters Judd and Willie Augusta Webb Judd – their only child. His childhood was spent living across Texas as his parents traveled wherever work was available during the Great Depression. Wendell graduated from Amarillo High School in 1951 and came to Dallas the following year to work at the Federal Reserve Bank downtown. During this time, he also attended night school at SMU taking accounting courses. Accruing enough credits to qualify for the exam, he became a licensed CPA in 1960 – the same year he met and married Dorothy Jo Williams at Gaston Avenue Baptist Church on November 18th. Wendell and Dottie were married for 57 years and loved to travel and entertain friends at their home in Casa Linda Forest.
Wendell and partners launched their own accounting firm in 1976 and he continued to serve clients long after new owners acquired the firm. Among those clients was Don Carter, the founder of the Dallas Mavericks in 1980 and Wendell proudly never missed watching a Mavericks game. He generously served on many boards, committees, and charitable trusts during his long career and especially enjoyed his fundraising relationship with St. John’s Episcopal School in Dallas.
He leaves behind his son Michael and wife Teresa; and grandchildren: Meghan Clements Schroeder and her husband Tyler; Mackenzie Judd Yarbrough and her husband Jacob; Trent Christian Clements; Madeleine Judd Estes and her husband Caleb; and Brett Christopher Judd. He was preceded in death by wife Dottie in 2017 and daughter Stephanie Judd Clements in 2002
