He answered the call to serve his country on May 10, 1951, enlisting in the Air Force at the age of 19. He completed 4 years of service and received an honorable discharge in 1955.
But ask those who knew Bill best, and they will tell you the service never really ended. He brought the same sense of duty home: to his family, his community, and the United States Postal Service where he continued to serve for 22 additional years.
He is survived by his children Bradford Flood, with wife Jo Flood, and Sheri Merkle, with husband Dan Merkle. Grandchildren Alex Merkle, with wife Melinda Booth, Dylan Merkle, with wife Krystalle Glosser, Lauren Ezzell, with husband Austen Ezzell, and Travis Wenz. Great grandchildren Logan Merkle, Everett Ezzell, and Aidan Ezzell. Great grand pups Tika Merkle, Mandy Flood and Bella Flood.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosa Flood, his son, Gregory Flood, and his brother Matthew Flood.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations, in honor of Bill Flood, to St. Jude's Hospital.
