Willie Frank Mitchem, affectionately known as “W.F. (Dub),” was born on August 1, 1947, in Lindale, Texas, to the late Terrell and Altitia Mitchem. He received his early education at Bragg Morris School in Lindale and, at a young age, united with Clear Springs Missionary Baptist Church, beginning a lifelong journey of faith.
In 1965, Willie moved to Dallas, Texas, where he worked diligently to build a life of purpose and legacy. In 1967, he married the love of his life, Dollie Jones, and together they raised three children: Derrick, Ganesha, and Rashida. “W.F.” was a true family man—devoted, steady, and always present.
In his younger years, Willie was a skilled Automotive Technician and, in 1979, opened Mitchem’s Quality Service Center, where he served the community with skill and pride. Beyond his trade, he embraced his passion for automobiles and motorsports. In the early 1980's he took his passion even further by joining the NHRA and IHRA Drag Racing Circuits and began competing in national events throughout the country and was one of few black men to do so. W.F. also introduced, supported and mentored other young race car drivers of color; including his son Derrick. His life as a licensed NHRA race car driver, embodied determination, courage, and a zest for life.
A faithful servant of God, Willie was a devoted member of St. Paul Baptist Church, where he served as Chairman of the Deacon Ministry from 2008 until his death and in total he has served as a deacon for over 34 years; following in the steps of his father Terrell and his older brothers, Robert, Max and Louie (all serving as deacons). His journey on this earth was one marked by unwavering faith in God. His leadership and humility left an indelible impact on both his church and community.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Terrell and Altitia Mitchem; brothers, Douglas, Max, and Louie; sisters, Linda and Toleda; nephews, Raygaryon and Aldrick; and nieces, Deirdre and Monique.
Willie leaves to cherish his memory: his beloved wife of 58 years, Dollie; his children, Derrick, Ganesha, and Rashida (Lakendrick); siblings, Robert, Sandra, Marva, and Lucy; four grandchildren, Xyavia, Apple, Kyan, and Ivy; and four great-grandchildren, Bailey, Baron, Bishop, and Sevyn. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will forever remember his determination, wisdom, and laughter.
His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family and friends, but his love, faith, and legacy will continue to live on.
