

Born in Mineola, Long Island, NY to the late Albano and Emilia Mendes Venancio, he moved to Portugal as a young child. Returning to the United States at the age of 17, he settled in Danbury.
A Danbury resident for over 60 years, “Mr. V” and his family owned and operated Togabees Lounge in Danbury, now the Cowboys Café. Tony was the former owner of Antonio’s Restaurant on Center St. in Danbury.
A member of St. Peter Church in Danbury, Tony was also a member of the Portuguese Cultural Center and the Casa do Benfica in Danbury. Tony loved his Portuguese soccer Team, Benfica, and listened to the games on the radio every Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
An avid golfer, Tony was a former member of the Richter Park Seniors. He enjoyed gardening, meticulously taking care of his lawn, was a wonderful cook and known for making his own wine.
Besides his parents, Tony was predeceased by his son, Anthony, and his brother, Leonal Mendes Venancio.
Besides his wife of 65 years, Tony is survived by his son: Gary M. Venancio, and his wife, Ana, of Danbury. His granddaughter: Lauren Roy and her husband, Carlos, of Danbury. His daughter-in-law: Rachell Venancio, of Brookfield. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30am on Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018 at St. Peter Church, Danbury. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 4pm-7pm on Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018 at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury.
