Barbara graduated as Salutatorian from Marywood Academy in Grand Rapids, MI and then from Trinity College in Washington, DC. She earned a Masters Degree in Special Education from the University of Michigan and began her career working with intellectually disabled children and adults. She taught special education classes in White Plains, NY where she met her future husband, Ernest, a school psychologist.
Barbara went on, after teaching in school, to work with adults at WARC, in White Plains. She ended her formal career with six years as Director of Human Resources at Ferncliff Manor in Yonkers. Never one to stay idle, she started a class for disabled children at St. Patrick's Church in her hometown, at the time, of Yorktown Heights, NY.
During Barbara’s retirement years, she resided in Tucson, AZ from 1995 to 2015 after which she moved to New Fairfield, CT to spend her final years closer to family. A selfless caring woman, Barbara used much of her retirement time volunteering for causes that were important to her.
Barbara is predeceased by her parents, Sigmund and Martha (Czapran) Zamierowski of Grand Rapids, MI and her husband of 57 years, Ernest. She is survived by her four children and nine grandchildren: Gregory (Cathleen) parents of Nicholas, Alexa, Corinne and Allison; Brian (Elizabeth) parents of Patrick and Kayla; Carolyn (Lloyd Decker) parents of Tegan; and Raymond (Erin) parents of Matthew and Mallory.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, January 16 at 10:30 AM at St. Edward the Confessor Church, New Fairfield, CT. All attendees will be required to wear a face covering, adhere to strict social distancing guidelines and sign in upon arrival at the church. A celebration of life will be scheduled for a later date.
