Affectionately known as “Bridie”, she was born in Edenmore, County Cavan, Ireland to the late Owen McCorry and Mary Ellen (Carrigan) McCorry. As many in that era did, she emigrated to the United States at age 20, settling in the Upper East side of Manhattan, where she met and married the love of her life, the late Edward P. Asselin.
She enjoyed her career as a hairdresser, and later, as a NYC public school cook and crossing guard, but there was no role she enjoyed more than that of a wife and mother to her sons, Edward P. Asselin and Owen F. Asselin, who unfortunately predeceased her.
She was a Pioneer, having taken an oath as a young woman to never drink alcohol, and very into physical fitness and healthy eating, which served her well through her golden years. She was not shy about letting her loved ones know when she felt their waist lines were expanding beyond her acceptable guidelines, but she was also very much a people person, and if attending an event with 300 or 500 people, would see to it that she spoke to each and every person at said event.
She is also predeceased by her siblings: Mary McCorry Curley, Bessy McCorry, James McCorry, Kathleen McCorry, Owen McCorry, Jimmy McCorry, and her niece, Mary Barry Bellew.
She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth McCorry Barry; and sister-in-law, Mary Connor McCorry; along with her daughter-in-law, Regina Asselin; and beloved granddaughter, Carol Ann Asselin; and many, many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
