

Born in Lynn, MA on August 24, 1937, Cynthia was the only child of Louise (Gibson) Quimby and George Newell Quimby. She grew up in Lynn and graduated from Lynn English High School. Cynthia received her Bachelor of Music degree from Boston University and later her Master’s degree in Adolescent Behavior from Western CT State University.
Cynthia taught elementary school music in Wilton for several years where she met Richard Mansfield, whom she later married. She left teaching temporarily to raise their daughters, but during that time continued to share her gift and love of music by providing private piano lessons in her home. Cynthia returned to teaching music at Rockwell School in Bethel. After retiring, she worked as an adjunct faculty member in the Music Education department at WestConn.
Cynthia was energetic and lived a full and meaningful life. She volunteered in many organizations, including the Praxair Cancer Center, Danbury Women’s Club, and the Interfaith Early Learning Center. Her many interests included attending theater and music events; traveling, including trips to Germany, England, Italy and Austria; reading; and spending time with family and many friends.
Cynthia was predeceased by her husband, Richard, of 54 years. She is survived by her daughters, Jennifer Mansfield of West Hartford, and Susan Mansfield Laurino and her husband James Laurino of Burlington; and, her grandchildren, James Richard Laurino and Julia Elizabeth Laurino.
Her family will receive friends at Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury on Friday, February 8th from 4pm – 7 p.m. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Praxair Cancer Center at Danbury Hospital, the American Heart Association, or a charity of one’s choice.
