Dorothy was born on June 18, 1961, to Arthur and Catherine Wilson. She met the love of her life, Charles J. Baker, in 1981 when they were both in their teen years and working at Caldors. The two married on August 24, 1985, and shared 40 wonderful years together.
A 1979 graduate of Danbury High School, Dorothy went on to further her education at Western Connecticut State University, earning her bachelor’s degree in 1983 and master’s degree in elementary education in 1989. Dorothy’s passion for teaching was unmatched. She dedicated nearly 30 years to the Danbury Public School system, beginning her career at South Street Elementary before spending most of her years at Morris Street School. She retired in 2010 due to illness but never lost her educator’s heart. After retirement, she enjoyed working for H&R Block during tax season for several years.
A longtime member of Central Christian Church in Danbury, Dorothy found joy in serving her community and volunteering in a variety of ways. One of her favorite roles was being a Girl Scout leader while her children were growing up.
Dorothy was known for her warmth, generosity, and the way she put others before herself. She will be remembered for her kind spirit, her laughter, and her deep love for her family. Dorothy adored spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren, creating countless cherished memories. She could often be found watching the New York Mets with Charles, enjoying HGTV or the Game Show Network, or catching up with former students who always remembered “Mrs. Baker.” Dorothy was also a lifelong fan of I Love Lucy. The show brought her endless smiles over the years, and three years ago she was thrilled to fulfill a lifelong dream by visiting the I Love Lucy Museum in Jamestown NY—an experience she talked about often and cherished deeply. She also had a love for word search and Sudoku puzzles, which she enjoyed working on during quiet moments. They were another reflection of her patience, persistence, and love for a good challenge. An avid bowler for many years, Dorothy participated in numerous bowling leagues and built lifelong friendships along the way.
Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Catherine Wilson; her sister, Sharon Santi; her brothers, Dickie and Thomas Wilson; and her beloved son, Timothy Joseph Baker.
